According to the People's Committee of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province, in mid-June this year, the province will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for the project to upgrade and expand Provincial Road 994 (2,300 billion VND), section 3 of Bien Hoa - Vung Tau expressway construction investment project - phase 1 (more than 5,000 billion VND), Phuoc An bridge project (4,900 billion VND). The completed projects will greatly contribute to the socio-economic development of Ba Ria - Vung Tau, Dong Nai and Ho Chi Minh City, as well as the Southern Key Economic Region.
On June 18, Ba Ria - Vung Tau will start construction of two key projects, namely section 3 of Bien Hoa - Vung Tau expressway project (phase 1) and Phuoc An bridge project.
The total Bien Hoa - Vung Tau expressway (phase 1) is 53.7 km long, which has a scale of 4-6 lanes and a total investment of 17,837 billion VND. The project is divided into three project sections, in which, project section 1 and 2 are 34.2 km long, which are implemented in Dong Nai, with a total cost of more than 12,600 billion VND.
The section 3 is located in Ba Ria - Vung Tau province with a length of 19.5 km with a total investment of more than VND 5,100 billion. In particular, this section passes through Phu My town with 15.5 km long, and the end point passing Ba Ria city is 4 km long. The cost of site clearance is more than 1,300 billion VND, the locality spends 670 billion VND from the reserve for the medium-term public investment plan for the period 2021-2025 to participate. The project is expected to be completed in June 2025.
Phuoc An bridge project is more than 4.3 km long, in which the bridge over Thi Vai river is 3.5 km long, with 6 lanes and paths, connecting to Phuoc An port. Construction cost is nearly 4,900 billion VND, of which the budget of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province is 2,879 billion VND and the Central support about 2,000 billion VND. The project is expected to be completed after 5 years of construction.
Two projects Phuoc An Bridge and Bien Hoa - Vung Tau Expressway will help relieve traffic congestion and reduce the load on the overloaded National Highway 51. Besides, over the past 10 years, the Cai Mep-Thi Vai deep-water container seaport system has been put into operation but has only reached about 50% of its designed capacity. One of the reasons is that this port lacks traffic connections with the eastern and western provinces.
Therefore, Phuoc An Bridge plays an important role to connect Ben Luc - Long Thanh Expressway with Cai Mep - Thi Vai area, which helps transport goods from the Mekong Delta and surrounding areas to Cai Mep - Thi Vai port cluster faster. The convenient traffic connection will help Ba Ria - Vung Tau have more advantages to attract goods to Cai Mep - Thi Vai port cluster, thereby promoting the strength from the seaport economy.
In addition, according to the plan issued by the People's Committee of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province, the project to upgrade and expand provincial road 994 (Vung Tau coastal road connecting Binh Thuan) will start on June 17. The route is 77 km long, divided into 7 sections, with a total capital of more than 7,000 billion VND and is diverged according to the province's ability to balance capital.
Provincial road 994 is a level 3 plain road, with two lanes of motor vehicles, starting from Phu My town to National Highway 55, intersecting with Binh Thuan province. Some short sections on the route have been invested with a 4-6 lane road design. When the upgrade and expansion is completed, the provincial road will have a width of 42 m and a length of nearly 100 km, connecting 5 localities of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province on one axis. The route will serve the development of tourism in the East of the province and connect Cai Mep - Thi Vai port cluster, serving the needs of intra-provincial and inter-provincial freight transport.
