On the afternoon of October 11, Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province held a gathering to commemorate the 20th anniversary of Vietnam Entrepreneurs' Day (October 13, 2004 - October 13, 2024). The event aimed to acknowledge the dedication and contributions of the business community, while honoring their achievements and the impact they have made on the country as a whole, and on Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province in particular.
In his opening remarks at the gathering, Mr. Nguyen Van Tho, Chairman of the Ba Ria-Vung Tau Provincial People's Committee, extended his congratulations to the business community and entrepreneurs across the province. He also emphasized that over the past 20 years, the business community and entrepreneurs of Ba Ria-Vung Tau have played a particularly important role in society. They have been the primary drivers of job creation, wealth production, and socio-economic development, making significant contributions to national defense and security.
The business community and entrepreneurs have consistently demonstrated resilience, innovation, and the ability to overcome challenges, achieving significant growth in both scale and quality. This is evidenced by impressive statistics: in 2004, the province had over 3,000 enterprises, and by 2024, that number had risen to more than 21,000, marking a sevenfold increase.
In 2024, alongside reforms in leadership and governance, the province has concentrated on implementing various activities to support and connect businesses. These include providing information to enterprises, organizing dialogue conferences between provincial leaders, businesses, and investors, to facilitate networking, information exchange, experience sharing, and market expansion in sectors such as seaports, logistics, and tourism. Notably, the province has focused on addressing obstacles and challenges in a timely manner to assist businesses and investors operating within its jurisdiction.
As a result, in the first nine months of 2024, Ba Ria-Vung Tau recorded growth in 13 out of 14 economic and financial indicators compared to the same period last year, exceeding the annual plan for 2024. The total investment capital attracted from both domestic and foreign sources reached USD 1.907 billion and VND 34.751 trillion, achieving 120% of the plan and increasing 3.2 times compared to the same period.
To date, the province has 489 foreign investment projects with a total investment capital of USD 33.4485 billion and 697 domestic investment projects with a registered investment capital of VND 406.5103 trillion.
The province saw the establishment of 1,417 new enterprises, reflecting a 10.35% increase compared to the same period last year, along with 482 businesses resuming operations. The Provincial Competitiveness Index (PCI) and the Provincial Green Index rank within the top 10 nationwide.
Chairman Nguyen Van Tho emphasized that these results are highly encouraging signals, providing a solid foundation for the province to strive to meet and exceed the targets set for 2024, while also implementing the socio-economic development plan for 2025.
During the gathering, Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province honored 42 enterprises that have demonstrated outstanding achievements in production and business activities, contributed to the provincial budget, and engaged in social welfare initiatives.
Additionally, the Provincial People's Committee presented investment certificates and flowers to six domestic and foreign investors, with a total investment capital of USD 100 million (VND 10 trillion).
